During February 2009, SNCF freight services and the soon to be phased out of service Bud style RIO push pull commuter sets in the Nord-pas-de-Calais area, were recorded. Film was taken at Douai, Somain and near Valenciennes. The freight services are of heavy mixed freight and trip workings, with block freights of inter-modal, coal, steel products, iron ore and automotive. These freights are in the hands of electric locomotives of the types BB22400, BB26000 Sybics, BB27000 Primas and BB36000 Astride. Either locomotive types to be seen in this section are the mainline diesel types BB67400 and BB67300 with shunter types Y8000 and 66700 heavy shunters. Also making an appearance are private operator Mak G1206 diesels in multiple.
The second part of this DVD looks at the soon to be out of service RIO push pull sets. These sets are being phased out by new double deck electric multiple units.This is the twilight for these trains and are usually hauled and propelled by electric locomotive class BB16500 in the Nord region and on this DVD. But some services also use diesel power and, as can be seen on this DVD, comes in the form of a type BB66400 on a service towards Valenciennes. Most of the train sets are in the stainless steel silver colour with a yellow window band; others are in the same silver with a pastel blue band from the Picardie region.
